ALL ABOUT NIRMA

The number of students inquiring about Nirma is increasing day by day. It has become difficult for me to explain the same things all and again to everyone from the very beginning. I’m tired of appraising Nirma, and thus finally decided to pen down everything that I know and I have experienced as being a student of Nirma. It is a chunk of Clat takers who are keen to inquire about Nirma, as it is the only good choice leftover for a person, who could not land up in any of the top national law schools and also some private colleges like symbiosis because they messed up CLAT exam. Even I had the same story last year and thus I have sympathy with such students. I appreciate their efforts, but again not everyone is made for Nationals, not all students of India can study in Nlsiu or Nalsar, someone has to be there in other college too for their strength. Last year even after taking a one year, I could not make
It to anywhere. There was no choice left, I spent my days crying, suffering from insomnia. No other choice was available, I have heard about some private college where I can apply on clat basis and I wanted admission somewhere, so I applied in dozens of such colleges like Nirma, ICFAI, Lloyd, and ITM Gurgaon etc. The total cost incurred in filling all those form was more than Rs.10, 000. There was no ray of hope. I did not know anything much about Nirma, I had applied in GLC Mumbai through freedom fighter quota so I was quite assured that I will get admission there, and thus Nirma was not an option. Because neither its website, nor its prospectus could impress me much. Moreover I had analyzed their syllabus, which was so bad that I had promised myself of not joining Nirma. Also the law school was very new and they had not placed any batch. Nirma is known as ‘washing powder’, then why should I join this. Finally Nirma published the report of its selected candidates for the counseling and my name featured on their list.  I was happy that at least somewhere I got selected. On the other hand there was a lot of stress as I had never been to Ahmedabad before and I was not mentally prepared to shift in there. Absence of Hostel facility inside the campus was another issue which was causing more migraine.
I had long Fb as well as phone call conversations with seniors – Ashay jain, Naveen.K.Jain, Navshesh etc about Nirma. Even though they briefed me all about it, I was not at all interested in joining it. After some days, the results of GLC Mumbai announced and unfortunately a girl having 82% in 12th board bagged the freedom fighter quota too, so I was finally left with only one choice –“Nirma”.
I had strange feelings on the auspicious day of orientation, I suffered from social anxiety disorder, when I found groups of people chattering, enjoying and having fun at the same time as tension is still gripping on my mind. Admission procedure started in afternoon and I was confused between B.Com and B.A. I made them change my option 3 times and finally asked Rhishikesh dave sir to choose one finger out of the two in which I have made hidden answers regarding the course choice, so finally I could decide what to opt and here was my choice B.COM.
Next day all the students were allotted a Nirma Bag including of 5 files and one pocket sized constitutional law book of red color(I have earlier seen such book with parliamentarians). Only that day I had finalized my P.G.accommodation in an AC room with 3 sharing. After that classes commenced.
Today I passed both of the semesters with 8.4 CGPA and now I’m in 2nd year. So based on the basis of my experience and knowledge I’m providing a comprehensive feedback about Nirma.

First impression: - Nirma is the best private university of Gujarat. You can increase your reputation before Gujjus if you tell them they you are studying in Nirma. Also it is situated at a peaceful location which is very close to both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, though it is considered inside Ahmedabad but in reality it is far off from the city, it can be known from the fact that McDonalds do not place order for this place as it situated at the outskirts (yeah, I have tried this, that too inside the college campus. I placed an order for one large French fries with one mcaloo tickki. They initially placed order very firmly but only after cutting the phone call could they realise that they don’t place order at that location and they called me again to inform me and apologising for the inconvenience. That can be the only reason behind owning 4 canteens inside a campus).
Ahmedabad has a good number of Malls and other 2-3 places like Iscon temple, science city, kakaria lake etc to visit often with friends(Don’t worry you won’t get time to visit that too)
Campus is Big enough to build an Airport and a house to Brand new cars. You can get to see all kinds of luxury cars like BMW, Mercedes Benz, Nissan, Volkswagen etc every day. Tall trees and plants has covered the whole campus in greenery and thus birds(we call them angry birds, because of their continuous shit raining, it is difficult to walk without covering the face, applying proper protection and defence mechanism) spends considerable time here. New beautiful species of Birds can be found. One day A brand new luxury red car was turned into Complete white shade in just 3 hours by Experts angry birds. One cannot enter the campus without showing the Identity card same applies in case of Nirma bus. One cannot enter the bus without showing the fee receipt. A person travelling without a fee receipt or bus pass shall be thrown out of the bus with humiliation. Theatre classroom with AC will give provide you support to maintain 85% attendance and 7 hours sitting at a stretch daily. Also since 1st year classroom is situated at 3rd floor, there is probability of losing weight.

Faculty: - Faculty is highly qualified and experienced. Most of them have pursued Ph.D. and worked in corporate sector, some completed their education from abroad and some have become a bestselling authors. They will not only teach you, but also guide you with their real life stories and corporate advices. Practicality of things is discussed in wide manner. Moreover bunch of students are allotted to various faculties and thus any problem (it can be personal too) can be shared with the concerned faculty or convenor or any other faculty without any hesitation. Though sometimes teachers get frustrated so they may shout at you because of your over enquiry but don’t lose patience they will get to you later, but once they start hating you, there is no way to impress them at later stage.

Placement: - Nirma has recently placed its first batch in reputed law firms and companies. Many firms and companies had participated in Nirma and selected students for the corporate band. Since most of the students of first batch are either the daughter/son of a famous lawyers/judges or they are interested in some other field(like shreyansh jhatakia has become a singer), so few students sat for corporate placement and since they did not have much publications on their name (yes publication in best journals are more important than internships) it was a difficult task to place them, but finally they are placed with the salaries ranging from  4-17 lakhs on campus and also one of the girls bagged a package of 34 lakhs in a foreign firm (that too is subject to her discretion to pursue LLM from Harvard).

Course and syllabus: - No Nirma does not distribute free books, as done by few colleges like ICFAI etc. But that can be purchased either 2nd hand from Lal darwaja, or fresh/new from College book shop (situated at the back of K canteen) or from a shop nearby ‘Bar council of Gujarat’ (in front of Gujarat High court). Also Faculties distributes some notes (innumerable in case of B.A.), which needs to be photocopied (at least Rs500/ Month should be kept aside for the purpose of such photocopies). Also some other notes and study materials are sent to Nirma college ID (which is provided so late, that you reach 2nd semester by then). What we have done, we had prepared a Gmail Id for the class and password and id is given to all the students and Id is given to teachers so that they can send materials at one common mail in absence of Nirma mail. And thus it is important to have a laptop and an Internet connection. Though laptop will not be in much use for the first 1-2 months, but later on you will need it, because all presentations, projects, study materials are computer based. Nothing is manual. You need not prepare notes; no one is going to check your copy, jot down the way you want. But it is always advisable to make notes because at the end (one day before exam), it becomes very difficult to read from laptop (continuous studies from laptop results into weakness in eyes). So the people who make notes are always in advantageous position because they are the one who scores highest. Also don’t take first moot court in casual way and don’t copy any memorial submission. Work hard and prepare your own memorial for the moot court with your team mates and also do not disclose anything from your memorial before anyone (not even before your best friends or family it can cost you). College authority reads each and every line of each submitted memorial and thus can award you 0 marks by leveling the charges of plagiarism and copy (I have experienced this, that’s why I can warn you).
Also don’t lose an opportunity to present your paper at National seminar. Submit articles for publications in the magazine ‘AXIOM’.

Hostels: - Nirma do not provide any Hostel accommodation to law students. They have hostels for MBA students and if any vacancy arises that is allotted to the final year students of law. Many Hostels and P.G. are available in Ahmedabad and Nirma provides bus facility in all areas of Ahmedabad and also few areas of Gandhinagar. For boys ‘Hiramani hostel’ is situated in front of the college and majority of the boy’s lives here, there is one more hostel ‘sandipani’ for boys. For girls there is one ‘Radha Krishna hostel’ but it is not good so most of the girls live in P.G. Some people shifts in flat after some time with their friends.
List of hostels can be found here
I live in a P.G owned by Alka vithlani. You can contact her – 9879054064

Study: - a Late night study is a culture for Nirma students, because by the time they reach home it is already 7 in the evening. As college timings for 1st year is from 11-6. You can always visit library for studies. Library has all books related to law. You can even access Manupatra, lexis nexis, justor, supreme court cases and judgement here.

Committees: - There are many committees for students, in which they can participate for taking part in extracurricular activities and for managing such activities. Moot court committee, Cultural committee, drama committee, music committee, Jail committee (only people who know Gujarat is allowed), legal aid committee, Magazine committee, website committee etc.  Interview and auditions are conducted
For gaining entry in the committees.

Food: - I don’t like the Gujarati food. Nirma has 4 canteens; you can enjoy good food in any of them. They offer mouth-watering delicious dishes and taste is good too.
In gujju culture, they don’t make food on Sunday nights so Sunday you have to go somewhere to eat. And if you like to stay at home (just like me) you can always place orders at Kake ka dhaba, McDonalds, dominos, us pizza, pizza hut, hav MOR etc.

Cost of living: - College fees is Rs.1, 08,000 P.A (1, 14,000 for 1st years) + Bus fees is Rs.5, 800 per semester. New books costs more than Rs.1000 (in case of B.COM and B.A. students don’t buy book), but you can always buy 2nd hand book either from seniors or from lal darwaja. It is advisable to purchase the books for legal subjects, because u will need it at later years. The accommodation or living costs a girl around 1 lakh per year and half (Rs.50, 000) to a boy. Also minimum Rs.5000 per month is required to manage other expenditure that many arise. Don’t miss your college bus, individual auto costs Rs.70-100 for Nirma and shuttle (public auto) takes Rs.20-30.

Formals: - College is not going to stitch your formal suits. So get it ready because you will be needing it during your moot courts to be held in september-october and it becomes difficult to find a senior having the same size as yours ready to give his/her coat at the time of moots. Also college may force you to dress formals on Monday and Tuesday.

Miscellaneous: - As soon as you take admission, signup at the university website here, because semester results are announced here and they sends access in 3-4 weeks after signup registration and if in case you are not registered here you will find difficulty in accessing the results later on. Never miss any guest lecture, seminar etc. they can allot 3-4 attendance for just single session. Speak as much as possible. Be over smart and over confident and you will rock. Welcome to Nirma
